About

Born and raised on Long Island, Claire Taveras was an avid reader and first took an interest in the art that embellished the pages of her books.

She studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and graduated with a joint degree in Art History and English Literature. Her classes inspired her to take an interest in the technical methods of classical art production utilized by the masters, and she took private oil painting lessons alongside her formal studies.

Upon graduating and her return to Long Island, she began her formal study at the Atelier at Flowerfield, where teaching methods are based on those used by generations of European and Early American representational artists. She previously studied under the tutelage of the Atelier’s director, Kevin McEvoy, who is a graduate of the Charles Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy.

She works in the classical realist style and often draws upon art historical compositions and palettes for inspiration. She is a member of the Salmagundi Club, one of the country’s oldest art clubs that promotes American art and artists.

She is currently based in Hanover, New Hampshire.
